Why support Scripps?

When you give to Scripps Institution of Oceanography, you invest in an institution of proven achievement and tremendous potential.

Impact Our World's Future

With one-of-a-kind resources and a century-long record of achievement, Scripps Oceanography is uniquely positioned to provide the scientific leadership necessary to address many of society's most crucial and complex challenges. Focusing on issues of global impact such as climate change, natural disasters, rising sea levels, the collapse of marine ecosystems, and the growing resistance of diseases to pharmaceuticals, Scripps scientists work to ensure a balanced relationship with our environment - now and for generations to come.

Your Support is Crucial to Our Success

Many people don't know that Scripps Oceanography receives less than 14 percent of its budget from the state of California. This means that Scripps must rely heavily on private donations to keep the institution and its many talented students and scientists on a steady track toward innovation and discovery.

Also, Birch Aquarium at Scripps receives no state appropriation, so income from admissions and rentals must be balanced by private donations to support the aquarium's dynamic and educational exhibits and K-12 programs.
