There is an immediate and pressing need for funds to support first-year graduate students at Scripps. Because the first year of study in particular is too rigorous to permit outside jobs, Scripps must guarantee support to each of the students we admit. First-year support for graduate students is especially important because it gives Scripps students the freedom to explore their scientific interests during the critical, early stages of their academic careers.
